PetSafe SmartDoor Connected Pet Door is a smart chip-activated pet door for dogs and cats that gives your pet freedom and independence while giving you control over their whereabouts, even when you are away from home. The door features a built-in Wi-Fi module, allowing you to change all settings at any time and from any location with internet access. The SmartDoor Connected Pet Door model offers a range of features that allow you to customize the door's operation to suit your individual needs:

• "My PetSafe" mobile app - operate the door remotely using your smartphone. The app is essential for scanning your pet's microchip and registering it in the door's "memory" so the pet can use the passage. "My PetSafe" lets you take advantage of all the benefits of the SmartDoor Connected model.
• Individual access permissions - if you have multiple pets, you can determine which of them can use the door at any given time and to what extent (entry and exit / entry only / exit only / fully locked).
• Schedule - plan access permissions for each pet for an entire week. With this feature, you can set on which days and at which times the flap will be locked for a specific pet, in other words, when the pet is allowed to go outside and when it should stay indoors.
• Notifications - receive PUSH notifications on your phone every time your pet enters or leaves the house, when settings are changed, when the battery is low, or when the system encounters an error. You will also receive an email notification if the door loses its Wi-Fi connection.
• Multi-user management - manage the door together with other members of your household. Your housemates can install the "My PetSafe" app and also change the flap settings.
• Power Loss Behaviour - decide whether the door should remain locked for all animals or stay open (including for animals without a chip) in the event of battery depletion or a power outage.
• Manual mode - basic door functions can be operated using buttons located on the frame, under the battery cover. Manual mode includes the following settings: enable/disable Smart mode, enable/disable the lock for animals without a chip, reset the internet connection, restore factory settings.

How does a chip-activated pet door for dogs and cats work?
Using the app on your phone, you can register up to 32 pets in the door's "memory" (particularly useful for breeders). To do this, you need to scan the number from the microprocessor located in the animal's body (implanted subcutaneously by a veterinarian) or on the pet's neck (in the form of a dedicated collar tag). When a dog or cat approaches the entrance, the built-in reader scans the chip and, if the number is successfully identified, releases the lock so the animal can pass freely through the door. All other animals remain locked out and cannot move the flap or pass through the opening.

The size M door is compatible with the most common types of chips implanted by veterinarians, i.e. 15-digit FDX-B microchip, 10-digit FDX-A microchip, and 9- and 15-digit AVID H and AVID Encrypted microchips. Animals that do not have an implanted microchip need to wear a special key - the "PetSafe SmartDoor Connected Key" collar tag (1 pc. included with the door). The size L SmartDoor Connected door, however, does not support implanted microchips, so every pet is required to have a special key.

Power supply
The door can be powered in two ways - by connecting it to a mains power outlet (power cable with plug available separately) or by using batteries. The flap is surrounded by weatherstripping seals that provide protection against cold/hot air from outside, and magnetic contact points ensure that the flap closes quickly after the animal passes through the opening.

Installation
The door can be installed in wooden, metal, PVC, and UPVC doors, walls, as well as in glass doors and (size M only) single- and double-glazed windows. The integrated tunnel with a length of 6.6 cm facilitates installation in thick walls and doors. You can gain an additional 5 cm by purchasing the PetSafe SmartDoor Connected Tunnel Extension. The tinted flap ensures privacy - neither animals nor people outside will be able to see into your home.

Before installing the door, register your pet's microchip in the app to make sure the door's reader detects the chip. Once the identifier has been successfully read, you should hear the flap unlock.
To make it easier for your pet to pass through the door, install it in such a way that the animal does not have to climb to get through.
You can have two alternative power sources at the same time - power the SmartDoor using the mains adapter while also keeping batteries in the door so it continues to operate in the event of a power outage.

Note:
When installing the door in a wall, in a door with a metal core, or in glass doors, walls, and windows, it is recommended to use the PetSafe SmartDoor Connected Installation Adaptor (available separately) to ensure proper microchip scanner operation and adequate sealing of the opening. Before installing the door in glass, contact a glass specialist, as this may require fitting a new, appropriately prepared pane. Installation in wooden doors that do not contain metal elements within their construction does not require an adaptor.
Before installing the door, remove all batteries from it.
Each door size uses a different battery type: M - type C LR14; L - type D LR20.
The My PetSafe app is available in app stores - App Store and Google Play. The app requires iOS 12 or later, or Android 5.0 or later to function properly. To connect the door to the internet, access to a 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network is required.

How to teach your pet to use the pet door?
After installing the door, leave the flap open for a while (you can secure it with a piece of string and tape to the surface above. Make sure the flap does not accidentally fall, as this may frighten your pet). Encourage the animal to pass through the opening using its favorite food or treats. First, feed the pet at the door from the inside, then at the door from the outside. Practice until the animal passes through the opening without hesitation. Then repeat the training with the flap down so the pet learns to push the flap open to get through. Pet and reward your animal every time it passes through the door. You can also incorporate a play element into the training, for example by threading a cat teaser toy through the opening.
