PetSafe Petporte Cat Smart Flap - Microchip-Activated Cat Door

PetSafe Petporte Cat Smart Flap is an electronic, intelligent cat flap that gives your pet freedom and independence. This cat flap, designed for installation in doors, walls, or windows, allows your pet to enter and exit the house at any time. You no longer need to interrupt what you're doing to let your cat out and then keep watch for its return to let it back in. What's more, this model features access control that blocks unwanted animals.

The flap allows only cats whose microchip has been registered in the flap's memory to enter the home. When a cat approaches the entrance, the built-in microchip reader scans the number from the microprocessor implanted in the pet's body and, if the number is successfully identified, releases the access lock. Other animals outside the home cannot move the flap or pass through the opening. You can register up to 25 cats in the database. The flap is compatible with the most common type of chip implanted by veterinarians, i.e., the 15-digit FDX-B microchip.

The Petporte Cat Smart Flap model offers a range of features that allow you to customize the flap's operation to suit your individual needs:

• Night Mode - after dark, the system locks the flap to prevent your cat from going outside. At dawn, the lock is released and your pet can go out again.
• Set Light Level - decide what light intensity should trigger the flap to lock and what level should unlock it.
• Timer Mode - you can also manually set the time when the flap should be locked and unlocked.
• Vet Mode - if you don't want your cat to leave the house, e.g., before a scheduled vet visit, this mode prevents your pet from going outside, and the flap lock remains active until you deactivate it yourself.
• Lock Return Time - by default, the flap remains unlocked for 4 seconds after detecting a registered microchip. If your cat needs more time to pass through the opening, or is frequently chased by other animals and you don't want its pursuers to follow it inside, you can adjust the time before the flap locks again.
• Key Pad Lock - prevents access to the control panel. This protects the flap settings from being changed, e.g., by children.
• Silent Mode - by default, a successful chip scan is indicated by a short beep. Silent Mode disables this sound.
• Open Mode - allows all animals to pass through the flap, regardless of whether they have a microchip or not.

To activate the flap, connect it to mains power (power cable with plug included) or insert four 6LR21 9V batteries. Around the opening in the frame, there is a soft seal that provides protection against cold/hot air from outside and also reduces noise during flap operation. Program your cat's microchip before installing the flap to make sure the reader detects the chip and to avoid having to hold your cat in the flap opening. After the cat's identifier has been successfully read, you should hear the flap unlock.
To make it easier for your pet to use the flap, install it at a height that doesn't require the animal to climb to pass through.

How to teach your pet to use the cat flap?
After installing the flap, leave it open for a while (you can secure it with a piece of string and tape to the surface above. Make sure the flap doesn't fall accidentally, as this could frighten your pet). Encourage your pet to pass through the opening using its favorite food or treats. First, feed the animal by the flap on the inside, then by the flap on the outside. Practice until your pet passes through the opening without hesitation. Then repeat the training with the flap lowered so your pet learns to push the flap open to get through. Pet and reward your animal every time it passes through the flap. You can also incorporate play into the training, for example by threading a cat teaser toy through the opening.
