The Staywell Magnetic Deluxe Cat Flap has 4 opening/closing options, controlled by a dial:

• the flap is fully locked (dial position 1)
• the cat can enter the house but cannot go out (position 2)
• the cat can go outside but cannot enter (position 3)
• the flap opens in both directions (position 4)

Thanks to the unwanted visitor lock, the flap only allows entry to cats that carry a special magnetic key - the "PetSafe Magnetic Collar Key". A key pendant that attaches to your pet's collar is included in the set. When the cat approaches the entrance and the key gets close to the bottom edge of the tunnel, the magnetic mechanism unlocks the flap. This rule only applies when the animal enters the house (going outside does not require a key). One pendant is included with the flap, but owners of multiple cats can purchase additional ones separately.

How to teach your pet to use the cat flap?
After installing the flap, leave it open for a while (you can secure it with a piece of string and tape to the surface above. Make sure the flap does not fall accidentally, as this could frighten your pet). Encourage the animal to pass through the opening using its favorite food or treats. First, feed your pet by the flap on the inside, then by the flap on the outside. Practice until the animal passes through without hesitation. Then repeat the training with the flap lowered so your pet learns to push the flap open to get through. Pet and reward the animal every time it uses the flap. You can also incorporate play into the training, for example by threading a cat teaser toy through the opening.
