Wall and ceiling-mounted germicidal lamps with direct action operate in the absence of staff and patients. They are an effective method of air and surface disinfection.

Selecting the appropriate power of a direct-action germicidal lamp depends on a wide range of factors, including the shape and size of the room (primarily its height). Additionally, the degree to which walls and objects in the room reflect light must also be taken into account. Other important parameters include humidity, air dust levels, and the resistance of microorganisms. As can be easily seen, it is difficult to definitively determine how many NBV series direct-action germicidal lamps should be installed in a given room. As a general guideline, sufficient microbiological cleanliness can be achieved by installing the following in a room with a ceiling height of 2.5 to 3 m:

• a 15W lamp for areas up to 8 m2
• a 2x15W lamp for areas up to 12 m2
• a 30W lamp for areas up to 15 m2
• a 2x30W lamp for areas up to 22 m2
  
  

The duration for which a direct-action germicidal lamp should operate depends on the type of room and its intended use. For example, in patient wards, treatment rooms, or operating rooms, the lamps are switched on for 2 to 8 hours. For room disinfection purposes (for example, between procedures), this type of equipment is operated for approximately 15-20 minutes.
